One of the big traditions with weddings is waiting to see one another until the bride walks the aisle. Not everyone follows this tradition, however, instead choosing to have a "reveal," or a "moment" together some time prior to the ceremony. I'm not trying to sway anyone one way or the other, but for photo and video purposes, I must be honest and say that seeing each other beforehand does have some definite pro's -- it allows more time for fun, creative shots of the couple together, rather than just separately sometimes there's a lack of time, or daylight, to get many good shots after the ceremony if you wait to see each other, you may be limited to only a few indoor, church-only shots of the couple together you don't have to worry about a ton of photos after the ceremony -- you can get on with the party! (no more fake smiles!) And then there's the reveal, or "the moment." It's always fun to have a couple see each other for the first time, and spend a few moments together before all the chaos begins. In one of our recent wedding films, for Abby + Dave, we captured their moment at Mt. Echo Park as Abby exited the bus and made her way up to her groom, who was waiting to see his bride for the first time that day. The video below is just a portion of their wedding film, starting from just prior to the reveal all the way up until the ceremony (including a song by the Dave Matthews band, selected by Abby + Dave Mathews!). Jeremiah + Melissa // as you wish

When you attend over 20 weddings a year, it can sometimes feel like the same gig every week -- not much new is said or done. A lot of money is spent, a lot of food is eaten, and a lot of the same music is played. So when something different comes along, you remember it. Maybe it's something about the couple, maybe it's something about the ceremony or some other aspect of the day. But there's just something that stands out from the rest. Many times it involves a story. Back in November, we filmed the ceremony and reception of Jeremiah + Melissa. We didn't do any pre-ceremony coverage, which is usually a time where we get to know the couple a little bit. Part of this occurs as we do brief interviews with the couple, and get to hear some of their story. But even though we didn't have this opportunity with Jeremiah + Melissa, we still got to hear their story. And boy, was it told in the most unique way! Their reception was held at the Glendale Lyceum [1](a great venue, by the way), and their band for the evening was Jake Speed & The Freddies [2], a local folk/bluegrass band. Now, this type of music may or may not be your thing, but there was certainly no debating that these guys are very engaging and entertaining! We can enjoy all types of music, so Annette and I really enjoyed these guys and this reception. Like I said, it was a very welcome break from the norm for us! The best part was the story. But then again, it always is. How did this relationship begin? How have you gotten to this point? There's always a story behind a wedding, and it's what makes the day so special! We love to develop a relationship with each couple, to hear their story -- because then the day has meaning for us. A wedding with no story is just a job, and that's no fun! Anyways, Jake wrote a song for Jeremiah + Melissa, telling the story of how they met. If you're at all a fan of the movie Princess Bride (and who isn't?), then you'll recognize the title of this post. I'll let you hear Jake talk about it, then sing it. Abby + Dave // the trailer

We traveled to the west side in November to film Abby + Dave's wedding. These guys have been great to work with, from beginning to end! I remember corresponding with Abby by email at first, then later meeting with Dave at a Panera in northern Kentucky. He was meeting with different vendors by himself while Abby was still in Toledo, and I knew at that point that he was a good man that loved his bride-to-be! I then "met" Abby on Facebook sometime during 2008, but didn't meet her in person until I arrived at their rehearsal. We've enjoyed working with them the whole way through, and I'm excited to present them with their wedding film trailer! John + Karen // HD wedding film

On March 28, our close personal friends John + Karen were married at Thorncrown Chapel [1] in Eureka Springs, AR. It was an event we had been awaiting for a long time! Because we were so involved in the day, we were very limited in the amount of coverage we could provide outside of the ceremony. I was the best man and officiant -- yes, I'm an ordained minister! (I am a former youth pastor, which is where I first learned to shoot and edit video!) Our 5-year old, Isaiah, was the ring-bearer. And Annette shot the entire video solo! She did a great job, even using our brand new HD cameras for the very first time. It was an incredible day! The weather didn't turn out as spring-like as we had hoped, but nonetheless, the day was perfect. This video is a short wedding film produced in high definition. If you're at all interested in the idea of an HD wedding film, or even just intrigued a little bit -- even though this is our first practice run with our new equipment, with only one camera operator, and though this online video doesn't do the HD footage justice -- you'll want to check this out! A couple "inside" things to know as you watch: the songs in the video were used in the actual wedding itself (well, one didn't make it in because the sound person got it messed up!) in place of the unity candle, the couple wrote letters to each other, which they locked up in a box, and will open and read on their 25th anniversary (you may wonder what John is carrying when we enter, or what they're doing with the envelopes during the ceremony) we surprised Karen during the ceremony with John's vows to receive her daughter, Abbi (her flower girl). I'm sure you can imagine the significance of this moment! (wow, did I read through this part like a crazy man or what?) if you wonder why people are looking off to the right during one scene, it's because two deer walked right by the glass chapel! I was too preoccupied to notice, but the "distraction" did serve as an incredible reminder of the beauty of God and His creation that the couple desired when they planned a wedding "outside" in the middle of nature! this was my first time performing a wedding! Please don't judge our filmmaking skills based on my speaking skills! ;) It was a very personal thing to be asked to marry them, though, and I really enjoyed having the privilege of being the one to speak to them on that day. If you've kept up with us over the past couple months, you know that I had the privilege of being in my best friend John's wedding last month. John + Karen live in Springfield, Missouri, where my wife Annette and I met and got married. It's also the city where we met John and became great friends back in college. This video tells the story of John + Karen's two beginnings: (1) their first date, and (2) the proposal that would lead to their new life together. The stories and locations are all intertwined! We shot this video just days prior to their March 28th wedding, with the intention of showing it at the reception. Time and technical difficulties prevented this, but better late than never! The footage was shot with our new Panasonic HD cameras, so it will give you a taste of the upgrade in quality. Kara + Jon // the trailer

Another great couple that we worked with in 2008 was Kara + Jon. Their wedding was on November 8 at the Manor House [1] in Mason. We enjoyed having our first opportunity to work with Michael Bambino & Co [2]. They were a blast to work with, and of course captured some incredible images from the day. Though it was a brisk November afternoon, you'd never know it by what you see on video! Kara + Jon, you guys were such a pleasure to work with! You both have great personalities and a great spirit, and obviously a strong love for one another. This makes our day and our "job" so easy, and so enjoyable! Chris + Angela

Chris + Angela were married on November 1st of last year at Landmark Church [1] in Cincinnati. I shot their ceremony solo that day, as well as some of their reception. One thing we love about our work is getting to know the couples, and part of that occurs during our brief interviews before the wedding. So even though we weren't scheduled to shoot prior to the ceremony, I decided to arrive a little early to capture some establishing shots (church exterior, people arriving, other details) -- PLUS I wanted to get some quick interviews with the bride + groom! ;) Though I didn't get to spend much time with Chris + Angela, I did get to hear their story, and I did become a fan of these two. They are down-to-earth, easy-going, and they just seem to enjoy life! The atmosphere created by Pastor Matt Holman allowed the ceremony to be such a fun, light-hearted celebration of their love and commitment. The video here includes everything I was able to capture in my short time before the wedding, set to one of their favorite songs. But most importantly, it includes the couple talking about each other and their relationship!
