I am a diehard football junkie, I admit it! Not a 'college' or 'pro' guy, just football period! But I do love my Bengals, regardless of all the terrible fans Cincinnati has. And today is a huge day -- IT'S DRAFT DAY!
If you're unfamiliar with what the Draft is, it's the day in which college players are drafted, or selected into the National Football League. This is the day when amateur players get a shot at making millions by playing a game they love, and each pro organization (and fan) hopes to land players who will dramatically increase the success of their franchise. There are 7 rounds, and each team has anywhere from 3 to 13 picks. The cream of the crop goes in round 1, with the best of the best in the top 10. Players selected in rounds 2-3 generally have the greatest value, ending up as the best players on your team. Rounds 4-7 fill needs on your roster, and many times you can find hidden gems that will contribute far into the future.
Now I also live and breathe wedding videography, as you may know! And this whole draft process reminds me of this industry, in a crazy sort of way. The brides, grooms, and parents are the teams making the call on which vendors they'll select. They definitely have a budget, and they have their own board drawn up with certain positions where they want to invest the most, whether that's the reception, photographer, etc. Then you have us vendors vying for the big pick -- running the drills, doing the interviews, showing off our body of work. The teams are comparing prospects, hearing from the experts, checking our character and background, gathering opinions...
It's a long, intensive process!
Wedding videographers are an interesting player in this process. Some teams grade us in the first couple rounds, others have us in the latter, while some don't even have us on the board at all! I think our industry continues to grow as the quality is consistently on the rise. And with our modern culture's interest in all things media and technology related, the value continues to climb.

At this point, my fair and honest assessment would place 28Twenty in those middle rounds. Mid to late third, maybe. Great value -- not necessarily mentioned with those first round heavyweights (yet!), but we'll end up being your most solid, valuable long-term signing. One day you'll look back and realize what a steal you got, especially considering the contract we agreed to! Many of those first rounders don't pan out -- such high hopes attached to monster price tags. But the strength of your team will always be determined by your choices in the middle of the draft.
Here's hoping that you make some good picks! ;)
