When I first began this website blog, I posted much more personal info than professional. My philosophy has always been that we want our company to be known just as much for being personal and engaging as it is for being professional. I didn't really want to create a separation between our business and personal life, because relationships have been top priority from day one. But I wanted to move beyond the service-provider/client relationship into the "friends" realm. And what better tool to let you into our world than our blog? However, I've noticed that I've become almost solely "professional" and business-oriented on here. And while some people will say that's the right way, I must politely disagree! If for no other reason, then simply because this is who I want 28:20 to be! It's about Andrew + Annette, a husband + wife team, who has a family, and is simply spending their working hours doing something they enjoy! In fact, it's ultimately our personal life, our love, our marriage, and our family that allows us to have the experience and perspective to do what we do. That is, it allows us to be able to create something we know couples will love and appreciate as their family grows and matures. We always think of our work in terms of the future -- will you love this in 10 years, and will you love showing it to your children? So I officially renounce the phrase, "It's nothing personal, just business!" For us, the line between business and personal life is practically indistinguishable. If you follow me on twitter [1], or become my friend on facebook [2], you'll quickly learn that I'm not all business! That's just not how I roll, in my mind or in my life. I may spend a good deal of my time working, but my occupation does NOT define who I am. And so I hope you don't mind it if I get a little personal on here! ;) One last thing -- this picture, taken this summer, is the photo of the year of our boys. As with every family, there are a number of milestone moments that you stop and celebrate. They cause you to realize how much your family has grown, how things have changed, and of course, to contemplate the path ahead. This past week for the Tates, we celebrated as our oldest son, Isaiah, graduated from kindergarten! Yes, there will definitely be some bigger and more significant achievements than this, but at the same time, our firstborn has finished his first year of school! That's just crazy to us! John + Karen // HD wedding film

On March 28, our close personal friends John + Karen were married at Thorncrown Chapel [1] in Eureka Springs, AR. It was an event we had been awaiting for a long time! Because we were so involved in the day, we were very limited in the amount of coverage we could provide outside of the ceremony. I was the best man and officiant -- yes, I'm an ordained minister! (I am a former youth pastor, which is where I first learned to shoot and edit video!) Our 5-year old, Isaiah, was the ring-bearer. And Annette shot the entire video solo! She did a great job, even using our brand new HD cameras for the very first time. It was an incredible day! The weather didn't turn out as spring-like as we had hoped, but nonetheless, the day was perfect. This video is a short wedding film produced in high definition. If you're at all interested in the idea of an HD wedding film, or even just intrigued a little bit -- even though this is our first practice run with our new equipment, with only one camera operator, and though this online video doesn't do the HD footage justice -- you'll want to check this out! A couple "inside" things to know as you watch: the songs in the video were used in the actual wedding itself (well, one didn't make it in because the sound person got it messed up!) in place of the unity candle, the couple wrote letters to each other, which they locked up in a box, and will open and read on their 25th anniversary (you may wonder what John is carrying when we enter, or what they're doing with the envelopes during the ceremony) we surprised Karen during the ceremony with John's vows to receive her daughter, Abbi (her flower girl). I'm sure you can imagine the significance of this moment! (wow, did I read through this part like a crazy man or what?) if you wonder why people are looking off to the right during one scene, it's because two deer walked right by the glass chapel! I was too preoccupied to notice, but the "distraction" did serve as an incredible reminder of the beauty of God and His creation that the couple desired when they planned a wedding "outside" in the middle of nature! this was my first time performing a wedding! Please don't judge our filmmaking skills based on my speaking skills! ;) It was a very personal thing to be asked to marry them, though, and I really enjoyed having the privilege of being the one to speak to them on that day. John + Karen // the beginning x2

If you've kept up with us over the past couple months, you know that I had the privilege of being in my best friend John's wedding last month. John + Karen live in Springfield, Missouri, where my wife Annette and I met and got married. It's also the city where we met John and became great friends back in college. This video tells the story of John + Karen's two beginnings: (1) their first date, and (2) the proposal that would lead to their new life together. The stories and locations are all intertwined! We shot this video just days prior to their March 28th wedding, with the intention of showing it at the reception. Time and technical difficulties prevented this, but better late than never! The footage was shot with our new Panasonic HD cameras, so it will give you a taste of the upgrade in quality. The BIGGEST wedding of the year!

The 2009 calendar is filling up quite nicely, and it’ll be another big year for 28Twenty. Though we’re scheduled to work with a lot of great couples this year, there is one wedding and one couple that we’re most anxious about. It’s a wedding that takes place here [1] on March 28 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Yes, we’re traveling to Arkansas for a wedding! We normally wouldn’t classify any one wedding as “bigger” or “more important” than another, but this wedding is special for several reasons. For one, the groom is my closest friend and occasional video partner, John! John and I go way back to college days in the state of Missouri, where we, along with my wife Annette, were extremely close friends. After college, in 2000, we all ended up in Ohio (my home state). Fast forward to 2006, when we came up with this crazy idea to start a wedding videography business! (Truth be told, we would credit God for giving us this bizarre “vision,” and we would also acknowledge Him as the one who’s made it go!) Life found John back in Missouri in 2007. We all understand now that John was directed back to Missouri because God had a bride waiting for him there! His friendship with an incredible young woman, Karen, took off, and now they are set to become man and wife next month! We couldn’t be more excited for these great friends of ours. Not only is this wedding special because of our close friendship with John, which gives me the honored role of Best Man, but I’ve been asked to play another significant role in the wedding: videographer! No, not really — though we’ll do what we can to give them a great wedding film (Annette may have to run solo on this one!). The role they’ve asked me to play is that of the officiant! Yes, you heard me right — I will be performing the wedding! If you don’t know anything about us, you may be surprised to know that I’m actually an ordained minister! I was once a youth pastor, which is where I started to develop some skills with the camera. This will be the first wedding I’ve ever performed, and I’m very much looking forward to it. To be asked to film a wedding is an honor. To be asked to be a Best Man is beyond special. To be asked to preside over the actual ceremony of my friends — I can’t even begin to describe it. It will be an emotional, incredible day! Plus our oldest boy, Isaiah, will be the ring bearer! Bring on the tux, little man! So forgive me, brides and grooms of 2009! We’re certainly looking forward to being a part of your big day. But this wedding, though not large or extravagant by “wedding industry” standards, will be the biggest and most beautiful wedding of the year for us! We can’t wait! One of our former clients, and what I would now consider a current friend, Andy Warner, recently had a baby boy with his beautiful new bride Tiffany. Becoming a husband and father are both great responsibilities — ones that Andy seems to be engaging with such enthusiasm and passion. He’s even using his blog as a way to bring attention to these great roles, which I think is a wonderful thing. Andy recently asked if he could interview me for his blog. The questions center around being a man, a husband, and a father. Because of the importance of the subject matter, and because I try to embrace these roles, though admittedly imperfect in all phases, I quickly agreed. You can read the post here [1].
