It's a beautiful occasion that deserves to be celebrated. But along with the celebration comes a HUGE price tag! We realize that modern-day weddings can cost a small fortune, and that most couples must first determine a budget before the real planning can begin. This post won't be an argument for the value of a wedding film -- if you're investigating the idea at this point, you already get it! Nothing else, outside of your own memory, will be able to more fully capture the sights, sounds, emotions, laughter, and beauty of your wedding day. Generally, one of the first questions posed to a videographer is, "What are your prices?" This is understandable, because most people aren't familiar with "the right questions" to ask (assuming there are right ones to ask!). Of course, this IS an important question, especially when a budget is being considered. But to tell the truth -- and to represent most artists in the wedding filmmaking community!  -- we just don't get excited when it's the very first question or comment presented to us! See, we too are "searching" for the right couple to share our weekend with! We want a couple who has taken the time to view our work, consider our style and personality, and has come to the conclusion that we "fit" exactly what they're looking for! No, we're not interested in booking 100 weddings a year, or making "x" amount of profit. In the end, we want to produce wedding films and productions that we can be proud of, that you will love. Every project we accept becomes an investment of our time, and lives, and we take it very personally and seriously. We pride ourselves on capturing and creating a timeless, personal piece of work for you -- something you'll have, watch, and love for the rest of your life. Something you'll share with the people you love most. It's more than just a "job" to us. If you're looking for an inexpensive account of your wedding, you'll find a lot of options to fit the bill. If you're just trying to "fit videography into your budget," you'll most likely choose to look elsewhere. Friday FAQ – Do you use lighting?

Lighting is always important when it comes to filming an event. And while our goal is to tell the story of your day -- not to produce a music video or a major motion picture -- we obviously want the quality of your wedding film to be outstanding. The images in your wedding film must be seen clearly, if we are to successfully tell the story of your day. So there is a fine line between maintaining the mood and atmosphere of your event, while still capturing the best picture possible. To achieve this balance, we rely mainly on our high quality cameras that operate very well in low light. We do not use lighting during the ceremony, and rarely pre-ceremony. Most receptions do require us to use on-camera lighting due to the low available light. We always do our very best to be as discreet and as considerate as possible with you and your guests when it comes to the use of lighting.   TIP: When it comes to your pre-ceremony preparations, always consider the available light in your dressing area, not to mention the amount of available space! If you're in a tight little room with no windows and lots of warm bodies (bridesmaids, mothers, photographer(s), videographer), not only will you feel boxed in, but the lighting probably won't be as pleasing on film. Make sure you have plenty of space and plenty of available light (i.e. windows), if at all possible! read more

Friday FAQ – Do you have any vendor recommendations?

We do get questions from time to time about other vendors, as we know all vendors do. And because our goal goes beyond just providing a great wedding film for you, we’re happy to help any way we can. You see, we’re also focused on building relationships and helping you to experience the best wedding day possible. *That means we want you to have the best vendors you possibly can, within your particular budget. *That means we’ll have a good working relationship with these vendors, as we form your wedding day team. On the left sidebar you'll find a list of our favorite vendors. We've worked with almost every single one of these vendors at least once, if not multiple times. A few we know and have a good relationship with, although we haven't actually worked a wedding event together. Whatever the case, we can confidently recommend each of these vendors because we know they share the same values we do. They care about their clients. They provide great, personalized service. They provide beautiful, creative work. And they are considerate of us and those they work with. These are the types of vendors we want to be associated with, and we highly recommend them to you in your search for the right team. Friday FAQ – Do you have backup equipment?

This is a GREAT question to ask of a potential wedding videographer! YES, we do carry backup equipment. We use multiple video cameras and camera batteries, tripods, monopods, microphones, and audio recording devices. We always keep an abundance of batteries (for audio equipment) and tapes on hand, as well. When it comes to filming an event, we don’t get a re-do! And because we don’t get a second take, we’ve got to make sure we’re covered should any piece of equipment malfunction. Any good professional will be prepared with backup equipment! I was inspired to write this FAQ at our most recent rehearsal dinner, where I sat at a table with the beautiful bride’s aunt. She told those of us sitting around the table the story of her son’s wedding, in which they’d hired someone to film the event. The family was so excited to see the final video, but was informed by the videographer that they didn’t have the entire event recorded. As if that wasn’t bad enough, imagine hearing THIS explanation: “Oh, our battery ran out.” Excuse me?  The uncle explained that the videographer was a “professional” who was apparently just starting out. Needless to say, we all assumed this was not only their first wedding, but most likely their last! read more

Friday FAQ – Can I choose music for my wedding film?

We LOVE getting your input on music! In fact, we ask for it. Nothing can make or break a video like song selection. It really determines the way we edit a piece, whether it’s more slow and emotional, or more upbeat and fun. We do ask for editorial and creative control over the production of your film, so we prefer to have a selection of songs from which to choose. Seeing the footage and having a vision for how to edit it depends a great deal on music, so we may find that one song “fits” better than another. But by all means, if you have specific songs you want us to incorporate, we’ll definitely do our best to use them! (Unless you ask for “Butterfly Kisses,” then we may not be able to help you.) Music does tend to get overlooked in the planning process, at least when it comes to the wedding video. As your day approaches, keep your ears open for songs that would be a perfect fit for your wedding film. This is your one chance to help build the soundtrack for the most meaningful film you’ll ever own! read more

Friday FAQ – Will you be in my face with a camera all day long?

A common fear of couples when it comes to hiring a videographer is that they’ll feel like they’re “under the spotlight” all day long. The feeling seems to be, “Having a formal ceremony is stressful enough, do I really want to be on edge and uncomfortable all day long by having a camera in my face?” At 28Twenty, our goal is to (1) help you experience the best wedding day possible, AND (2) produce a wedding film that honestly and creatively captures your day in such a way that you can step back into the story each time you watch it. Because we’ve identified this as our goal, we always work hard to “blend in” to the background. We prefer that you don't even know we're there. The less you think about someone filming you, the more natural and comfortable you'll be. This always provides better footage, because you're free to have fun or express emotion as you normally would. And this is our goal -- to capture things honestly, without posing or prompting in any way. We're not here to direct your day -- we're here to document your day. We often hear from couples and family members that they didn't even realize we were there! This is great to know, because we'd rather go unnoticed. We don't want to stand out or draw attention to anyone but you! And while we like to be "invisible," we also like to develop relationships. We enjoy joking around with you or your bridal party, or lending a hand if needed or when we're able. So back to the question, "Will you be in my face with a camera all day long?" With so much action taking place on that day, and with our desire to be as unobtrusive as possible, I think the LAST thing you'll remember about your wedding day will be us and our cameras! read more

Friday FAQ – How do I choose a professional wedding videographer?

There’s several ways to go about finding a professional videographer for your wedding day. The best way is through referrals. First, check with any friends or family who’ve married recently. A recommendation from someone you know can bring great peace of mind! Next, ask any vendors you’ve already selected, particularly photographers or DJ’s. They can generally give you a few different options to look into, but be sure to get more than just one name. (Some vendors may only refer one company, in which case the recommendation may be motivated more by self-interest, rather than in the interest of finding the right fit for YOU.) Another good way to find a wedding videographer is to search online. There's a number of great wedding planning resources that even provide a list of local vendors. Some of these sites include the Knot, mywedding.com, and Wedding Wire. You can find a number of vendors and websites that you can spend days searching through. Local message boards like the Knot can be helpful, as well, because you can hear about the opinions and experiences of other local brides. One way to meet and identify some local videographers is by attending local bridal shows. This method has a number of fans as well as haters! It can be an intimidating or a fun environment, depending on your personality and what you're expecting to get out of it. Some brides have success and find some vendors or ideas, others go just for fun, while some hate the atmosphere altogether! I personally think every bride and groom should experience at least one bridal show, if for nothing else, just to see what's out there! When it comes to choosing a videographer, there are some important things to consider. If you're on a tight budget, or if video is simply an "add-on" item for you, then price will usually be a determining factor for you. If video is more important to you, and you're looking to have your memories captured in an honest and creative way, then there's a couple other things you should consider first. Do I like their style? Check out their samples online. If that's not enough proof, ask for a demo of a recent wedding. Do you love their style and how they put together a wedding film? Do I like them as people? Do your personalities mesh? Would you be OK working with this person before, during, and after your wedding? This is an extremely important intangible to consider! These are basic, but critical, considerations when choosing a videographer. Price will obviously play some sort of role, unless your budget has no limits. But style and personality should be the deal-makers or deal-breakers. You should love the people and their style of work before hiring them. Enough said! read more
