Friday FAQ – Do you have backup equipment?

This is a GREAT question to ask of a potential wedding videographer! YES, we do carry backup equipment. We use multiple video cameras and camera batteries, tripods, monopods, microphones, and audio recording devices. We always keep an abundance of batteries (for audio equipment) and tapes on hand, as well. When it comes to filming an event, we don’t get a re-do! And because we don’t get a second take, we’ve got to make sure we’re covered should any piece of equipment malfunction. Any good professional will be prepared with backup equipment!

I was inspired to write this FAQ at our most recent rehearsal dinner, where I sat at a table with the beautiful bride’s aunt. She told those of us sitting around the table the story of her son’s wedding, in which they’d hired someone to film the event. The family was so excited to see the final video, but was informed by the videographer that they didn’t have the entire event recorded. As if that wasn’t bad enough, imagine hearing THIS explanation: “Oh, our battery ran out.” Excuse me?  The uncle explained that the videographer was a “professional” who was apparently just starting out. Needless to say, we all assumed this was not only their first wedding, but most likely their last!
