Rather than having a page dedicated to Frequently Asked Questions, I thought I’d post one question each Friday to address a wedding or video-related question. If you’d like to see the list in its entirety, simply go to the Friday FAQ category on the right sidebar.
And yes, smarty pants, I realize that today is not Friday. But hopefully you’ll be able to see past that and get something out of this post anyways!
FAQ - Why wedding videography?
For years, photography has ruled the wedding industry as THE medium for capturing the moments of your big day. And you’ll never hear us say one bad thing about photography! As someone who appreciates creativity, I am a true lover of good photography. How else could you posterize a fun moment like this…

I’ll never try to convince you that you don’t need photography, or that video is better. Photography rocks! Get a great photographer! It’s an incredibly worthwhile investment. But I also won’t say that photography is better than video. Both forms of expression are unique and amazing in their own respective ways. So try to get both!
One great piece of advice that Annette and I received years ago from a friend’s mom as we were planning our own wedding: Designate more of your budget towards the things that you’ll have forever. This mom expressed remorse over the fact that, for her own daughter’s wedding, she spent so much money on feeding people (money right down the pot!), and yet she assigned the photos to a relative – only to receive a sorry pile of blurry pics! The moral of the story: have a great time, enjoy yourselves, but don’t have Uncle Charlie do your photos or your video…unless Uncle Charlie happens to be a professional!
Some of the pros of having a professional wedding film:
–Video captures sound. The laughter as you’re posing for a photo. Your voices saying “I do.” The cheering of your friends and family as you’re pronounced husband and wife. The music as the dance floor is hoppin’. Captured moments come to life when they’re accompanied by sound!
–Video captures motion. The bride getting ready. The fellas laughing and carrying on. Dad and daughter walking down the aisle. The groom watching and waiting in anticipation, holding back tears. The first kiss. Your crazy drunk cousin bustin’ a move to Ice Ice Baby. You get to witness all these moments, and more, in action!
–Video is entertaining. At least it can and should be! Sure, a friend or relative can hold a video camera for you, but you’ll miss out on quality, and you probably won’t enjoy your video nearly as much. With a professional, you’re getting experience, creativity, and equipment, and all these things make a huge difference in the end!
Just like photos, video captures the moments and emotions of your biggest day. It allows you to cherish those memories, hold onto them forever, and even share them with future generations. If you talk to enough brides, you’ll be hard-pressed to find any who regret having professional wedding videography done. You will, however, find many who regret NOT having it done.
And besides, who doesn’t want to be the star of the show at least once in their life? ;)
