An experiment in blogging

Ok, so I’ve done some blogging on my MySpace page, but I’m not sure if that really counts. I truly enjoy writing and expressing myself through the written word — always have — but for some reason the thought of attempting a blog is a bit intimidating to me! I’m not quite sure why… Maybe it’s the fear of not doing it “correctly” (as if there’s a proper and improper way to do this). Maybe it’s the fear of being irrelevant, having no one willing to listen. Sometimes when I check other blogs with no comments, I’m left wondering if I’m the only one tuning in? And if that’s the case, will I also be a lone blogger?

And yet I’m choosing to take this venture head on. I love the thought of allowing others to move beyond a simple web page to know me on a more personal level. There’s something about reading a man’s blog that somehow connects you with him. It’s as though he’s allowing you to peel open his diary and read his heart. It’s a bit of a contradiction, the blog — it seems somewhat impersonal, yet uniquely personal at the same time. It’s actually much like the work of a wedding videographer. It’s impersonal in the fact that you’re standing behind a camera for hours, following the action as well as the actors, documenting their every move. But…this is their wedding! I’ve been invited to participate in this intensely intimate and personal event! The transfer of responsibility and care from the bride’s father to the groom, the joining of husband and wife, the creation of a new family and home. It’s a beautiful time, it truly is. And I have been entrusted to make sure these memories last forever!

At the end of the day, I hope this blog gives you the opportunity to get to know me. I would love for you to know me as more than just a “video guy.” I’m going to use this page to talk about my life and family, to inform of current specials on wedding packages, to share stories of recent wedding experiences (there’s always plenty of these!), new video clips, etc. Whether you’re a friend, partner in the wedding industry, someone who’s allowed me the privilege of producing your wedding video, or just a bride, groom, or mom planning a wedding — I hope you stop by often and share your own thoughts with me! I’d love to make this a conversation…

Thanks for embarking on this little journey with me!
